Introduction of Focused UltraSound (FUS) 聚焦式超音波之簡介

Focused Ultrasound (FUS) is a transformative medical technology resulting from decades of research across physics, engineering, imaging, biology, and neuroscience. FUS enables non-invasive and precise interventions in key brain circuits that drive complex neurological and psychiatric conditions. Its effects in the brain range from transient blood-brain barrier opening and neuromodulation to permanent thermoablation. In the past five years, there has been a rapid increase in the clinical applications and experiences with FUS in humans, leading to significant growth in academic and public interest. FUS is now being explored for various neurological and psychiatric diseases, with new insights continuously emerging from preclinical and clinical studies. In this talk an overview of therapeutic ultrasound and its current and emerging uses in brain therapy is presented. It highlights the potential impact of FUS on the future of brain treatments and discusses the challenges to further advancement and wider adoption of this minimally invasive therapeutic alternative.
