Genetic testing for epilepsy in 2024: whom, when and what to test?

Driven by major advances in gene sequencing technologies and computational approaches, the past 15 years have been characterised by tremendous progress in unravelling the molecular genetic underpinnings of rare and common epilepsies. As a result, genetic testing is now commonplace in the management of a number of epilepsies. In this lecture, I will discuss which patients should be offered genetic testing, when this should be carried out, and what type of testing should be performed.
